WorkSafe NZ Seeking Board Members

Worksafe NZWorkSafe NZ has an independent board with five to nine members appointed by the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety. Board members will be appointed as individuals to deliver on their collective responsibilities and not as representatives of particular sectors or interest groups. Diversity of experience and background of members across the board will be a key consideration.

WorkSafe NZ is a Crown agent under the Crown Entities Act 2004, established as New Zealand’s workplace health and safety regulator under the WorkSafe New Zealand Act 2013. WorkSafe NZ’s focus is to embed and promote good workplace health and safety practices. The organisation is working collaboratively to achieve a 25 percent reduction by 2020 of New Zealand’s workplace death and injury toll. The new Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 commences on 4 April 2016.

Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

· Experience in public sector governance.

· Knowledge of central government processes.

· Knowledge of New Zealand’s workplace health and safety environment, including workplace illness and occupational disease.

· Understanding of the perspectives of workers and/or employers.

· Experience in administration of workplace health and safety legislation and risk management frameworks.

· Business skills generally.

Ideally they will also have:

Extensive experience at a senior level in one or more major industries, such as:

- manufacturing

- construction

- agriculture, forestry and fishing

- energy

- transport

- health
