Wellington Pacific/Ethnic Volunteer Patrollers

The Pacific/Ethnic Volunteer Patrol was established in the hope that it will help reduce the number of our Pacific and Ethnic people coming to the attention of Police.  They are here to promote good behaviour and look out for 'at risk' and 'vulnerable' people with a view to offer support and guidance and to encourage good behaviour, especially to our young people.

This is volunteer work, it's all about the community taking ownership and providing whatever time they have available to make our City a safer place.

The patrols are an extra pair of eyes and ears and will work alongside the Police during Friday and Saturday nights.  They will only assist the Police when asked or required.  They have absolutely no legal powers.   

For those interested in joining the Police this is a great insight to see what the Police do first hand. The patrol is not limited or bound to Pacific/Ethnic people, although we are specifically aiming towards our Pacific/ethnic people we will come across a diverse range of different cultures.

Every volunteer is Police vetted (forms below).  Two copies of identification are required, also below is a form of what Primary and Secondary forms of id are accepted (please read this carefully). Both copies of id's will need to be verified by a JP or Police, whoever verifies these documents will need to sign and date page 2 of the Security Clearance Form. These can be sent in or dropped of the Wgtn Central Police Station: att: Constable Phillip PITHYOU

Typical hours of operation would be around 9pm-12am on Friday and Saturday nights. You would typically walk in groups of four patrollers with one police officer. You would be given a radio and a high visibility jacket. Your role is primarily to speak and interact with people and ensure that they are ok. The idea is to allow members of our community to assist Police in alcohol harm prevention on the weekend.
