The Art and Literature of Ancient Egypt
This series of six lectures (21 Oct - 25 Nov) will give you an insight into the art and literature of Egypt’s ancient civilisation. You will analyse the processes by which art was executed, the materials used, the themes captured and how the art differed according to its purpose and audience. Alongside art, you will consider the often-overlooked literature of the ancient Egyptians, their epic tales, morality narratives, love poems and final autobiographies recorded in tombs for future generations. Ancient Egypt’s words and pictures provide a fascinating insight into that which they wished others to know. Can the songs, tales and biographies of these people help us to better understand a society lost for over 2,000 years?
